Recent Project Accomplishments
Confidential Client - Pharmaceutical Process Automation / System Integration:
P-L recently completed a very significant, confidential project for a major pharmaceutical manufacturer, providing S88.01 and cGMP-compliant PLC and HMI programming for a multi-step, multi-vessel purification process. Over 50 batch phases were designed and deployed over a network of 4 AB PLCs and 9 intrinsically safe HMI units.
Helping Kodak comply with Air Quality Regulations:
P-L recently provided MOD300 DCS programming services to Kodak’s Synthetic Chemical Division. The programming upgraded a group of Organic Chemical reactors to be compliant with the latest MACT regulations.
Confidential Client - Hazardous Area Code Compliance:
P-L recently completed a study for a confidential client to assess their compliance with NFPA 86 as it pertains to a large drying oven that handles flammable and potentially explosive solvent vapors. We provided them with a detailed analysis of the code, recommended specific improvements to their zone heating and exhaust systems and we recommended specific placement locations for LEL monitoring equipment to assure safe operation, while at the same time allowing lower cost operation of their Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer.
Confidential Client - Electrical & Instrumentation Design:
P-L recently completed an assignment in which electrical and instrumentation design support was provided to a large US engineering firm that specializes in the design of Blast Furnaces used by a number of international steel-making companies.
Machine Automation for Peko Precision Systems:
P-L is currently providing PLC and HMI programming services to a local manufacturer of unique, often one-of-a-kind, automated manufacturing machines. Our current project is to create the programming and interface for an automatic brazing machine designed by Peko for Delphi.
Leachate Pumping Station for Waste Management Landfill:
P-L recently completed PLC programming and HMI modifications (Modicon Concept 2.6 and Citect ver. 5) needed to add a new Riser House/Pumping Station to Waste Management’s Mill Seat Landfill site in Riga NY. Integrating the new Riser House programming into the existing system proved to be the biggest technical challenge because the existing system, which relied heavily on fiber optic- and radio-transmitted signals over Modbus RTU and Modbus plus protocols, was not well-documented. After a great deal of “reverse-engineered system integration”, we've left the system in a much-improved, well-documented state.
Capital Project Portfolio for Arch Chemicals:
P-L recently provided Project and Construction Management services in the replacement of a process waste neutralization system. We spec’d, bid, and coordinated the work of Electrical, Mechanical, Millwright, and other related trades. The existing system was dismantled, cleaned, retrofitted with new internal components, and restarted, all within the one week allotted downtime.
We provided Project and Construction Management services in the replacement and enlargement of a steel platform located in a hazardous process area. We spec’d, bid, and coordinated the work of Millwright, Structural and related trades.
We provided PLC and HMI programming services (Modicon Concept 2.5 and WonderWare ver 7.1) to automate the operational sequences of an existing batch chemical manufacturing process. The automation provides greater freedom for the process operators to work on this process while also working on other processes in area thus achieving a higher degree of productivity.
We provided PLC and HMI programming services (Modicon Concept 2.5 and Maple Systems HMI) to control the operation of 3 parallel processing particle size reduction mills for the creation of a micro-particulate product used in wood preservative products.
We are currently providing Design and Project/Construction Management services for a number of projects including a Process Vessel Replacement project, a Process Area Ventilation Improvement project, Electric Room Pressurization work (for compliance with NFPA 497), and other base capital projects.
